PROFILE

In 1976 at a Brier banquet in Regina the guest speaker John Diefenbaker fell ill and could not take his scheduled spot on the podium. So Sam Richardson, a joke teller of some repute, got the emergency call. That night Sam Richardson began a long successful speaking career. Sam Richardson's reputation as a great speaker, in fact, exceeded his reputation as a great curler. Forty years ago, four men from Regina won a series of curling championships — a feat unrivaled to this day. In a five year span, the Richardson’s curling team won four Briers and four World Championships. These accomplishment brought glory and fame not only to the Richardson’s curling team but to the city of Regina and the province of Saskatchewan. The Richardson's brought the sport of curling out of relative obscurity and towards the prominent place it now occupies in Canada's sporting culuture. Sam Richardson, was the second on that Championship curling team. Sam Richardson is a man loved and admired for his skill, his wit, and especially for his generous nature which has enriched thousands of lives.
