Originally born in Great Britain, Dave Ridgway immigrated to Canada in 1974. From 1977-1981 he attended the University of Toledo (Toledo, Ohio, USA), where he earned a degree in Marketing. In 1981 Dave was drafted to the Montreal Alouettes, where he experienced his first pro camp. In 1982 Dave was invited to try out with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Dave ended up having a stellar 14 year career with the Roughriders and accomplished just about everything a place kicker can in professional football. Holder of many team and league records, Dave proved he was worthy of the nickname "Robokicker". During the 1989 Grey Cup he helped secure victory for the Roughriders when he kicked a 35 yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining in the game. Considered by many to be the greatest Grey Cup ever played, the 1989 victory over the Hamilton Tiger Cats was only the 2nd Grey Cup victory in the Roughriders long history. Dave retired from the CFL, in April 1996. He left the game second on the all time CFL list with 2374 points scored in 238 games, and second on the all time field goals made list with 574. He is the CFL's all time kicking accuracy leader (minimum 150 attempts) making 78% of all field goals attempted. Dave is a six time CFL All Star and seven time Western Conference All Star. He was nominated for four Schenley Awards and was voted Most Valuable Canadian of the 1989 Grey Cup. In 1993 Dave was awarded the Canada 125 Medal. Dave's autobiography "Robokicker, An Odyssey Through the CFL" made it on the best-seller list in Canada. Today Dave Ridgeway is a Manager of Consumer Terminals for a corporation and professional speaker on motivation and teamwork.
